Relapse (kinda)

2020.09.18 07:44 LikKilmijo Relapse (kinda)

Don't know who to tell but I think I'm proud of myself
I'll keep it short, recent events led me to taking 2 10 mg hydrocodone at around 10:00 pm tonight. Not much in the way of regret or contemplation went into it, just wanted to make all the shit stop for a bit. Anyhow, 15 minutes after relapsing, I was taking a shit, waiting for the high to hit when I realized I would have to reset my time on my sobriety app (Sober time btw). Went on it and saw the cute little inspirational quote, "Never give up, for that is just the place and time where the tide will turn", saw the date of my last use, 17 July 2020, and above that, in tiny text, just over a 3/4ths filled milestone bar it said "the big 90". For some reason, seeing that put all my shit in place, all the stuff I was hiding from came to me and I immediately started bawling my eyes out and had a nice panic attack for a good couple minutes which eventually led to me using my skills of forced vomiting I acquired when I was like 12 to get out of school and I purged the hell out of my gut. It's 10:30 now and I am pretty sure that I threw up the pills, I'm still a little shell shocked but I don't feel anything so I think I can cautiously say that I saved my fucking 90 days and at this point, I fucking earned it.
Before now, the milestones never really meant much to me but for the first time in the past almost 3 months I feel free and proud and Ive never been more happy to say that a sober Anthony is now going to go play animal crossing with the woman that I love more than anything. That shit is evil, sobriety with the right mindset is the greatest thing on earth, every single person struggling with addiction or temptation has the fucking power to do this, I believe in y'all and I'm excited as fuck for the big 90. Gonna go brush my teeth now, goodnight beautiful people

2020.09.17 08:35 Ursus_Maritimus97 Identifying Some Paintings in D&D! (Long post, lots of pictures)

Identifying Some Paintings in D&D! (Long post, lots of pictures)
So to preface this, I'm a historian, which means I see a lot of old paintings. Like, a lot of old paintings. So while playing Desire & Decorum, I noticed that a few of the portraits you see in the background looked pretty familiar. What really got me though was seeing a Winterhalter portrait from 1864 tucked in one of the backgrounds--y'know, fifty years after D&D takes place. When I noticed that, I decided to see what other paintings I could identify and date. So, for your viewing pleasure, I present just a few of the paintings we can see in D&D, starting with that Winterhalter portrait.
Yes, the perspective makes it very narrow, but I've seen this portrait a thousand times, so I recognised it right away. This is a portrait of Madame Barbe de Rimsky-Korsako by Franz Xaver Winterhalter, painted in 1864. Winterhalter was one of the most famous portrait artists of the 19th century, and painted many portraits of European nobility.
This is a portrait of Cardinal Armand Jean du Plessis, Duke of Richelieu (better known as Cardinal Richelieu) by Philippe de Champaigne, painted in 1640. I believe this specific copy is actually a study for a later, more detailed portrait. Richelieu was a French Cardinal during the reign of Louis XIII, but today he's best known as the lead villain of Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers.
In the same background as the Richelieu painting, we can also see a reversed portrait of Gustav III of Sweden by Alexander Roslin, painted in 1777. I had no idea who this painting was, but I assumed it was a king based on his pose and regalia, so I found this one by searching \"portrait of king with ermine\" on Google. Not the most elegant solution, but it worked, lol. Ermine cloaks, like Gustav is wearing here, were a signature of European royalty from around the 15th century on.
In the stairwell of Edgewater, we see this portrait of Marie Leszczyńska, the Polish-born Queen of France and wife of Louis XV. This portrait was painted by Charles-André van Loo in 1747.
And right beside Marie, we have a portrait of Peter III and Catherine II of Russia--better known as Catherine the Great. This portrait was painted by Anna Rosina de Gasc, a female artist, in 1756. After overthrowing her husband (like a badass) in 1762, Catherine became the Empress of Imperial Russia, whereupon she led Russia into a golden age of cultural development and progress.
So this one is weird: when I finally managed to find this painting, I found the image in the middle, with the sharper brush strokes and brighter blues, on the website for the Metropolitan Museum, which cites it as \"Portrait of a Woman\" by John Hoppner, painted in the 1790s. However, when I searched the painting again to try to find a better quality image, I found the painting on the right on Wikipedia, now cited as a portrait of Maria Fitzherbert, wife of George IV of England, by George Romney. So which is it? Honestly, I think it was just a Wikipedia contributor mistakenly attributed the painting on the right to Romney, and that it's actually a study Hoppner did for the painting in the middle, but who knows? Also, the paintings of those two gents below our lady look decidedly late Victorian/Edwardian to me, so they, like the Winterhalter painting, might also be anachronistic. I couldn't find them though, so I'm not certain.
Finally, let's identify this guassian-blurred boi in the dining room of Edgewater. It's a bit hard to tell which of these two paintings it is (though I'm definitely leaning towards the one on the right), so we'll look at them both. The painting on the left is of Charles I of England, while the painting on the right is of Francisco de Moncada, a Spanish diplomat and soldier. Both of these paintings are by Flemish artist Anthony van Dyck, and both were probably painted in the early-to-mid 1630s. He also painted a third painting with nearly this exact composition of Charles I, but with a different background, in 1633, so my guess is that the painting on the left was a study for that later painting. Why Dyck would risk the wrath of two different patrons by painting essentially the exact same portrait of them both is unfortunately beyond my knowledge, lol
And there we are! Seven of the portraits in the backgrounds of D&D identified! Of course there are many, many more portraits in game than just these seven, but these were the ones I immediately recognised and was able to find (there are a few more I looked for but unfortunately couldn't find, alas). So obviously, with the exception of the Winterhalter painting, all of these paintings were painted in the 17th and 18th centuries, and therefore did exist in 1816. That said, most of these portraits, given that they're of kings and queens, would most certainly not be found in the country home of minor English noblemen and gentry, so it's still a bit weird that they show up here (Richelieu and Gustav in the king's residence makes more sense, but still unlikely). Clearly Pixelberry was not counting on a very bored history MA student tracking these portraits down ;)
In any case, thank you for reading this far, and I hope you found it interesting! I've been wanting to share these for so long, so it's nice to finally get to present the fruits of my research to others who might appreciate it. Have a lovely day, y'all!

2020.09.17 05:25 G_A93 The guard dog of the abandoned Sea Side Hotel

“Aye pussy bet you won’t ride down Murdy Hill no slowing down!” Jimmy roared at Anthony. The boys were out enjoying a day of typical pre teen activities. Beating their chest and trying to show off for each other. “Fuck off. You know my bikes a piece of shit, besides its not like your chicken shit ass is gonna ride down.” Anthony laughed. The boys rode off and enjoyed their day. Living life as every young man should. Free and full of life. They took a break to enjoy a bite at Grubshax. As they were stuffing their faces with fries, Jimmy piped up about something that would forever change their worlds. “Hey you wanna talk chicken shits, you hear about butch and his merry band of pussies backed out of heading into the old Seaside Hotel?” “and in front of half the school! What a fucking MARY!” Anthony said. Letting out a hardy laugh.
The Seaside Hotel was a ghastly old hotel near Cliftons Beach. The place was the last remaining building of the old main street. Entire building, once a vibrant white was now yellow stained and decrepit. There was nothing wrong with it. No murder mystery. No exorcist was performed. Nothing. Just a hotel thats best years were behind it. But that didnt stop every in town to make up a story about it.
“ much would it take for you to go in Jimbo?” Anthony casually asked. Mouth full of salty fries before he washed it down with an ice cold coke. “ Why not just go in for free? Chicken?” Jim retorted.
Anthony knew that in his heart he wanted no business going in anywhere that was off limits. For as much as these boys messed around...they were good kids. Although Jim was definitely more inclined to partake in reckless behavior.
“Jesus, its always insults with you isnt it? Im not scared just..”
“JUST WHAT?!” Jim yelled. Half snickering while tossing away his trash. Jim had a way of being convincing and insulting you. All it took was a bit of mild bullying and Anthonys natural macho inclinations led him right infront of the double door entrance to the Sea Side Hotel. The boys looked meekly at the enormous waste of space. They were both terrified internally but would never admit it.
Time felt like it was standing still before Jim broke the tension. “Hey are we doing this or not? Cause if not I got a date with your sister at 7.” Jim grinned. He had a very distinct smile. Very toothy. Surprising since Jim chipped one of his teeth on an adventure with Anthony just weeks earlier. Anthony socked Jim in the arm with a grin and motioned to go inside the abandoned death trap.
Upon entering, the boys noted there was some equipment left over. Naturally they began screwing around with the decore. Runnign bellhop rigs up and down the main floor. Pretending to answer calls from everyone in town. Jim even found an old pin from the hotel and stuck it on his shirt. For a moment, the boys needs to have a bit of reckless fun was met. Then…
“Hey Anthony did you hear that?”
A low rumble from one of the halls came. A cross between a dog and a man pretending to be one. The boys peaked their head around the corner to investigate. The rumble had died down a bit. The noise was now harder to categorize.
“We should bail Jimbo, I dont like this” Anthony said cowardly.
“Dude, it sounds like...maybe a dog? If its a dog we need to help it. What if its stuck and cant get out? There gonna blow this place any day now. We cant leave it here” Jim said, always having a soft heart for animals. Anthony wasn’t going to leave him in there alone. The boys took deep breaths and began walking through the now eerily silent hotel. As they made their way through the first hall...the feeling of eyes watching them sunk in. “Jim, lets just call the city non emergency line man, theyll come in. They’re trained.”
Jim snapped at anthony “Jesus christ man grow a backbone! They’ll never help out a dying animal in a condemed building. As a matter of face they would probably just have us arrested for trespassing. Now are you going to be a baby for every moment?”
Anthony gave jim an angry look..but nodded his head as they quietly listened for the sound.
Suddenly, a more distinct dog like bark radiated through out the floor. It sounded like it was coming from one of the upper levels. The boys took the stairs up to the second floor and listened. They listened so closely at each bark to pin point the dog, that they didnt even realize the dog sound was not getting any closer. After an accenstion up one more flight of stairs...anthony spoke up.
“Hey man, hold on.”
“What now sweetheart are you gonn..”
“SHH” anthony blurted out. Covering jims mouth his hand.
“Listen to it you notice that?”
“Notice what?” Jim said, with all the confidence he had fading in an instant.
“The barks. They’re not getting any closer. We’ve gone up two flights of stairs. We should at least hear it getting closer Jim.” Anthony said wide eyed, face full of terror.
The barking noise, now serving more as a ambient noise, grew more frequent. Like when its a hot summer night and the crickets have lost control of themselves. As each bark rang out the boys felt a shift in the air. The boys turned around to head towards the exit down to the bottom levels but were stopped dead in their tracks. Both boys went pale. Gasping quietly That is when they saw it.
Up in the corner...where the wall meets the celine. There was a creature hugging the wall. Facing away from the boys. The creature looked human from behind. A rather large back with scars running all over it. It was hairless...its head looked bald. It was quietly breathing up in the corner of the room, being the only thing blocking the boys from sprinting through the door below.
“Jim…” Anthony called. “Jim we gotta get outta here...we got to be quiet”
Jim didnt say a word. He was transfixed on the creature. Trying not to draw any attention, Jim nodded his head and took anthonys hand as to lead him. The boys began taking baby steps towards the direction of the exit until a sudden creek let out beneath their feet. On any other occasion it would seem almost mute but in this instance...the creek sounded like a stick of dynamite blowing. Both boys held their breath and then within second the creature hopped down from the celine and landed on all 4s. As the creature stood up, time began to stand still. The creature was much taller than it appeared on the celine. The creature stood there menacingly with its back to the boys...then a sudden barking sound emerged. It was the sound they had heard earlier but now was going from a sweet dog to a distorted cry of anguish. And as the hellish sound arose all around them, the creature turned. Its face was indescribably horrid. Its jaw looked as if it was skeletal with bits of human remains left over. Barely hanging on for dear life. Its eyes were glowing yellow. The were wide open with only tiny dark black pupils gracing the center of them. The creature kept making that barking sound at the boys. Almost taunting them. Its teeth drenched with drool. Looking like razor sharp glass. It stopped barking. It took in a large breath of air...and within seconds, shrieked a terrible scream and went after the boys. The boys screamed and ran back towards the end of the hall. They ducked into a room, holding the door closed.
“WTF IS THAT!” jim screamed
“IDK MAN IDK...WE GOTTA GET OUT OF HERE” anthony exclaimed.
The creature was now ripping parts of the door. Banging very loudy and screaming. Jumping from the barking to that terrible screech.
“The window ! we can jump onto that second floor balcony and then down to the first.” Anthony said, trying to catch his breath.
The clawing and noises died down a bit. Maybe the creature got tired, they thought. Anthony ran to the window, breaking it open. As Anthony looked down, he looked back at Jim who was still holding the door shut for dear life. “On 3 ill jump and you follow okay?” Anthony said. Jim nodded in agreement, tears filling his eyes.
“Okay. 1..2..3” Anthony bursted through the rest of the busted glass and landed on the balcony of the second floor nearly unharmed. As he immediately looked up, he saw Jim about ready to jump. As Jim leapt, he was suddenly being pulled back in.
“JIM!!” anthony yelled.
“ANTHONY ! HELP ME PLEASE!” Jim screamed.
Then, in agony, Jim began wailing and screaming.
“Jim! No!!” anthony screamed. All the sound from that 3rd floor room went silent. Anthony knew he needed to get help. He jumped down to the base level, running towards the street to call somebody...anybody that would he took one look back up into that cursed hotel...he saw something. The creature was waiving from the window with an enormous grin. Almost as a bon voyage from the hotel. What really shook him to the core was the creature now had a normal looking smile...minus the chipped tooth…”
In the following days, Jim's body was never recovered. And the entire area was dug up and searched before being promptly demolished. Jim was a great friend to anthony. To everyone really. His smile lit up the room. No one ever believed anthony when be told them the one understood how Jim went one really cared either..all anyone cared about was ...the new sea side mall they're putting in its place.

2020.09.17 02:00 SourPatchKidIcarus Pittsburgh is Underrated

Someone posted about why they want to move to Pittsburgh recently, so I thought I'd do the same. It's a bit of a long story. I was kind of bummed recently because I though I was going to have to move to Europe to find an interesting place to live, but when I discovered Pittsburgh, it blew my mind!
I have been researching places to move to for about 2 years. I live near Portland. It took me a few hours to realize that the west coast in general has pretty high prices on its houses. This opened my mind to moving to another state, perhaps far away.
I'm looking for a really cheap house. I discovered that you can get a house under $100k in Chicago if you are OK with living in the southern area, a little outside of the city. Of course, those neighborhoods are pretty dangerous. Not to mention the cost of living and taxes in CH are among the highest around. But, this research was just part of expanding my knowledge.
I eventually narrowed my choices to Philadelphia, Houston, and Atlanta. Each of these three cities had ample music venues, comedy clubs, high population, and some interesting culture to learn about. I decided to visit Atlanta because plane tickets are dirt cheap and the cost of living/safety seemed best there. I had a lot of fun during my visit, and I decided it would be a great place to live!
That was back in February. Once the pandemic came in full swing, housing prices shifted all over the nation. Atlanta suddenly no longer had an abundance of cheap houses in good enough condition. I have some experience renovating, so I would be ok with having to do a bit of minor work.
It also turns out that car insurance is crazy expensive in ATL. I still think I might end up there, it could happen, but I eventually started researching more places I might want to live.
I came across Pittsburgh probably a dozen times when researching various cities based off of affordability, but I had passed it by every time. I think this is mainly because of the name "Pittsburgh". Let's be honest, it's a bit of a weird name. I would always think about armpits when I heard that name.
Zooming around on Zillow, I was comparing the amount of cheap houses in Chicago to Philly, and I decided to check out Detroit just for fun. Lo and behold, detroit has hundreds and hundreds of beautiful brick homes for less than $100k. The problem is, they are in Detroit, and that city has a ways to go before it becomes an enjoyable place to live for me.
So, I was determined to find some brick houses on Zillow for cheap in a good city. Pittsburgh just happened to be in between Philly and Detroit, so I zoomed in to see if I could find some nice houses. Lo and behold again, I found them! There might not be as many, but Pittsburgh has the highest amount of cheap brick houses that I could find after Detroit. And so, I started researching Pittsburgh!
The first thing that struck me was the Cathedral of Learning at U of P. I love European architechture, and that was one thing that constantly frustrated me about looking around the nation for where to move. There aren't many places in the US where good architecture is abundant, at least compared to European nations.
But, not only does Pittsburgh have the Cathedral, but it also has a ton of bridges! I love bridges. Portland has a few great ones, too.
Pittsburgh also has 8 or 9 comedy clubs, according to Google. This is a huge plus in my opinion. I took some improv classes at one point in a smaller town, and I really want to get back into that in a bigger city.
Pittsburgh has 4 (or 5?) smaller music venues and 2 larger ones (Stage AE, The Rex). I play guitar and I'm occasionally in a band, so having a decent music scene is a plus. Although, I'm curious to know if the DIY music scene (house shows, etc.) is a thing here. Please let me know!
Pittsburgh is also the birthplace of Batman (Michael Keaton) and Anthony Jeselnik. I accidentally discovered these facts while looking through YouTube videos on Pittsburgh. Also, The Dark Knight Rises was partly filmed in Pittsburgh, as well as a bunch of other movies. I'm a freelance video editor, so being in a place with a film industry presence could lead to some interesting work. There's also a tax credit for Pennsylvania filmmakers.
Wikipedia mentions that Pittsburgh has the largest population of Eastern European immigrants per capita among US cities. I have had a thing for Bulgarian folk music for several years, and this is just another idiosyncrasy that draws me toward moving here.
I'm a millennial, and we apparently rated Pittsburgh the 4th best city for dating. Source:
In fact, the only other city from that dating study that I was considering is Columbus, OH. I would probably enjoy living in Austin or Nashville if I could afford a house there, but Pittsburgh just checks a lot of interesting boxes for me while also having a large amount of cheap houses.
Lastly, I'm a big fan of accents and language. Just the fact that people on this subreddit use the word "yinz" makes me smile. Some people have said that the Pittsburgh accent is fading away, but even still, I think I would enjoy knowing just one person with a local accent that was different from mine.
I'm a bit concerned about air and water quality, but those things can be dealt with to some degree (air purifiers, water filters).
So, I am planning on visiting Pittsburgh when it makes sense to do so. With the virus still being at large, and thus the comedy and music clubs being less active, I think I will wait a while. But, in the mean time, I appreciate everyone posting on reddit. Cheers!

2020.09.16 21:20 cberry88 Harvest HOC Cranberry Twp Opening Date

Hey Everybody,
I had e-mailed Anthony at Harvest HOC in July about the new Cranberry location and he quickly got back to me that it was scheduled for 8-10 weeks from then.
Well, I just e-mailed him again asking if there were any updates and he told me they were planning for a September 30th opening.
Not sure if this date has been posted but I hadn't seen anything so I thought I'd share. Also wanted to give a shout-out to Anthony C. at Harvest HOC for the quick and friendly responses.
Have a great day everyone!

2020.09.16 09:41 IntoTheDisneyverse The Complete(ish) Disney Family Tree

The Complete(ish) Disney Family Tree
Ok, so I’ve enjoyed mapping fictional family trees for ages, and I was really annoyed that there was nothing on a complete Disney family tree that linked all or most of the worlds together. So I started digging to see what I could find on the matter. There were quite a few fragmented theories, but nothing as complete as I’d like. So I decided to take matters into my own hands. I knew that it would be almost impossible to link every single Disney movie, partially because of all the anthropomorphic stuff. Mine is definitely not complete, and not canon either, so you can believe what you want. But this is my family tree, and what I believe to be true, so here you go.
So let’s start at the top, in the universe of Hercules. Hercules is based on Greek mythology, but much of the complicated family tree is NOT Disney canon. The only part actually acknowledged by Disney is the fact that Zeus, Poseidon and Hades are brothers, so we can assume that their parents are the same as in mythology, Cronus and Rhea.
So, in Greek mythology, Hera was also a child of Cronus and Rhea, but this is not acknowledged in Hercules, so we can assume that Zeus and Hera are just husband and wife. So let’s go down the Zeus branch first.
Now, we all know that Hera and Zeus had Hercules, and that Wonderboy went on to marry the witty and beautiful Megara. And just before we continue, a note that I am considering Descendants (both books and movies) as canon. So in the Descendants book Return to the Isle of the Lost, the character Herkie is mentioned as the son of Hercules and Meg. But on top of that, there was going to be a Hercules sequel called Hebe, but sadly it was cancelled. It would focus on Hebe, daughter of Meg and Herc, and even though she never appeared on the big screen, I’m counting her as canon. Disney invented her, so I say she deserves a place on the tree.
That’s the end of Zeus’s branch.
Now we’re getting a bit more complicated. Now, in both Greek mythology and Disney canon, Poseidon and the goddess Amphitrite are married.
And, in mythology, they have a son, named Triton. Now, there is a Disney character named Triton, so I doubt this is a coincidence. King Triton, as revealed in Ariel’s Beginning, was married to Queen Athena (separate from the goddess in Disney canon).
And of course, they go on to have seven daughters, from eldest to youngest Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista, Andrina and of course, Ariel.
In a comic called The Underwater Wedding, Attina marries an unknown prince from a faraway kingdom, but I have been unable to find anything on him, so I am not including him in this family tree. But there is a girl mentioned in Rise of the Isle of the Lost, named Arabella. Her signature colour is lavender, and she is described as the niece of Ariel. The colour that she is associated with points to either Alana or Andrina as her mother and Arabella is very concerned with her looks, much like Alana. This means that Alana is probably the mother of Arabella. And now to another matter.
Before we look at Ariel, we should look at her aunts. Yes, Ariel has two aunts, Ursula and Morgana. In earlier drafts of The Little Mermaid, Ursula was going to be Triton’s sister, but this point was not included in the final movie. There is a clue, however, that points to the fact that Ursula and Triton are still siblings, just before the song Poor Unfortunate Souls. Ursula says “In my day, we had fantastical feasts, when I lived in the palace.”. And why would she live in the palace unless she was Triton’s sister? And we are introduced to Morgana in The Little Mermaid: Return To The Sea. She is Ursula’s, and by extension Triton’s, sister. But we still aren’t done. Because Ursula has a daughter. Uma.
Uma is introduced in Descendants 2 as the daughter of Ursula. But the movie says nothing about her father. So here’s my belief on her father. So, what do we know?
One, her father must be a villain, because she was conceived on the Isle. Two, he must be human, because she has a human form and her mother is an octopus. Three, her father must be black, or face it, she wouldn’t look the way she does. Only one candidate fits all three criteria: Dr Facilier.
But Dr Facilier has two other children, Celia and Freddie. I have not been able to find a theory on their mother, so there you go.
So there are Ariel’s cousins, so let’s get back to her. She married Prince Eric, and they had a daughter, Melody, who looks like a perfect blend of Eric and Ariel.
That is the end of the part I call Poseidon’s Branch. But there is another part of the tree, I call the loop. It connects Poseidon’s Branch and Hades’s Branch. But we’ll get to that in a bit.
So, Hades. His official wife is Persephone, goddess of spring, but he has children with other ladies if I’m correct. Now let’s start with his first mentioned child, Hadie. He is mentioned in Return to the Isle of the Lost and is a minor character in the book. Now, Hades was exiled to the Isle with all the other villains, but I believe that someone powerful, a god, for instance, would be able to visit the isle to see their relative or husband. And I think Persephone did just that. She went over to visit Hades, and her son, Hadie, was imprisoned with his father. But there is one other person who Hades definitely had a child with. Maleficent. In the House of Mouse episode Halloween with Hades, Hades attempts to woo Maleficent, and by the end, he has succeeded.
And when they were both exiled to the Isle, they had a daughter, Mal. I don’t know why they broke up. Most likely they decided that both of them being evil wasn’t enough to build a relationship on. But I believe that at one point, Hades had another affair, with another villain. Yzma has two children, whom I believe to be twins. Yzla and Zevon. Zevon looks nothing like his mother.
Most Descendants have the same first letter as their parent for their name, as well as similar colour schemes. But Yzma’s scheme is purple and black, whereas Zevon’s is turquoise and grey. Which villain has a colour scheme like that? Hades. So Hades has four children with three different people. But a note on Maleficent. Her parents are not mentioned in Sleeping Beauty, but they are in the movie Maleficent. Their names do not appear, however, unless you read the book of the movie. In there, it names them as two faeries, Hermia and Lysander. Now back to Mal.
It hasn’t happened yet, but Mal and Ben are currently preparing their wedding, and so we can safely say they will get married.
And Ben’s parents are of course Belle (daughter of Maurice and an unknown woman) and Prince Adam, aka. the Beast. But I don’t believe that Ben is an only child. Enter his way older brothers, Cinderella’s father and the Duke of Weselton.
I believe that these two were born before Auradon, and you can see some similarities. The nose and the moustache are quite similar, and if Cinderella’s father had aged more, his hairline would probably have receded in a similar fashion to the duke’s. And this also explains why the duke is unable to pronounce the word ‘Weselton’ properly. A proper german-speaking person from the area would pronounce the word something like ‘Veseltun’. Now from some history to explain this.
So Beauty and the Beast is set around 1770 in France. And in 1789, the French Revolution began. All nobles and royalty were forced to flee or be killed. So Belle and Adam must have fled to Germany, where they settled in Weselton. They had two children, and this explains why the Duke cannot pronounce the name of his hometown, as well as his title. As the oldest child, the Duke must’ve inherited the title from his parents. As royalty coming to Weselton, the family must have downgraded to Duke and Duchess. As for the pronunciation problem, the Duke pronounces it how a french-speaker might. And Cinderella is set in Germany, so this is a fair guess of how they ended up there. But back to the Duke.
After he messed up so badly with Arendelle, he (and his son) packed up and left Germany, because no-one was going to like him that much after he stopped them trading with their main partner. And by then, the Industrial Revolution was happening, and the Duke of Weselton sensed an opportunity. He moved to London with what wealth and heirlooms he could, including a certain tea set.
One theory, which I support, says that when the servants of Prince Adam were turned into objects, they merely inhabited objects already in the house, and when they became human again, the tea set remained. And the duke took this tea set to London, and his son inherited it. It was then taken to the jungle with his granddaughter when she went to observe some gorrilas. Yes, the Duke of Weselton’s son is none other than Archimedes Q. Porter. And his daughter, Jane, greatly resembles her great-grandmother, Belle. They both have beautiful brown hair, bunched yellow dresses and a taste for slightly wild men, who they then try to civilize. This only reinforces the theory.
And Jane marries Tarzan, who has two unnamed parents.
So we’ve looked at the Duke, now let’s look at his younger brother, the father of Cinderella. He married a woman, Cinderella’s mother, and they had one child, Cinderella.
Now, she married Prince Henry, better known as Prince Charming, and according to Descendants, they had a son, Chad.
But if we look at Cinderella’s father, we know he married again, to Lady Tremaine. Lady Tremaine had been married once before, to Francis Tremaine. They had two daughters, Anastasia and Drizella.
In Cinderella 2: Dreams Come True, Anastasia get a reform and becomes a nice person, falling in love with a humble baker, but for whatever reason, she is still sentenced, to the Isle of the Lost, and the baker comes with her.
They have a son, Anthony Tremaine, who appears in the Isle of the Lost book.
Drizella does not get a reform, and she also goes to the isle, where she has a daughter, Dizzy.
Dizzy’s father is not given, but here is what I think. So we start with what we know: He must be a villain. And he must be a redhead, because Drizella’s hair is dark. This has a lot of candidates: Prince Hans, Alameda Slim, Syndrome, the Stabbington brothers or Prince John. But there is one more thing. Lady Tremaine. She has already lost one daughter to a baker, and she would want the other to marry someone wealthy or a member of royalty. This leaves two people: Prince John or Hans. Now, Lady Tremaine would probably not want her daughter in a relationship with someone as stupid and cowardly as Prince John, and also, he’s a lion! So we can safely assume that Hans is Dizzy’s father.
Now we need to take another look at Cinderella, or rather, her fairy godmother. I will count that as a family connection, so let’s see. In Descendants, the Fairy Godmother has a daughter, Jane. But she is one of the few AKs without two parents mentioned. For AKs, it is common for them to have two parents in the same universe, and with the previously mentioned name convention, with having alitterated names. So, if we take that into account, only two people could be her father. First, Jaq the mouse. Really? Not happening. He’s a mouse! And he’s in a relationship with Mary the mouse. Only one candidate remains. The Grand Duke, advisor to the king. His name is unknown, so it could be John or James or something, and ‘Duke’ and ‘Jane’ sound similar anyway. The colour scheme between Jane and the Duke is similar. Their hair is similar. So the Grand Duke is Jane’s father.
Now, it isn’t official, but I believe that Jane and her boyfriend Carlos De Vil will marry, so this means Jane has Cruella De Vil for an in-law. But Carlos’s dad is nowhere to be found. This is a common theory, but here it is: King Candy is Carlos’s dad. He definitely counts as a villain. Cruella De Vil in Descendants is black, and has nothing to do with technology, which Carlos is quite talented with. King Candy gives him his skin color, his freckles and his aptitude for technology, as well as explaining that candy scene in Descendants. But we’re not quite done, because Cruella has a brother, Cecil B De Vil. He ended up on the Isle of the Lost, and had a son, Diego. So Carlos has an uncle and a cousin. That is all for Hades’s Branch.
So, the loop. This part of the family tree connects Hades’s Branch with Poseidon’s Branch, through a pair of brothers. You will never guess who they are. Prince Eric’s father, and the King from Cinderella, father of Prince Henry. They are the decsendants of Prince Florian and Snow White.
You can see a lot of similarities between the brothers’s sons, Prince Henry and Prince Eric, and Snow White and Prince Florian.
Prince Henry looks like a perfect blend of them, doesn’t he? And Eric is pretty close too, if not quite as perfect.
Furthermore, look at Snow White and Eric’s castles.
Eric’s is obviously a modernised version of the Snow White’s castle, modeled on it but updated.
So let’s have a look at Snow White’s family. She is the daughter of an unnamed king and queen. When the queen died, the king married Queen Grimhilde, better known as the Evil Queen. She was exiled to the Isle of the Lost with the rest of the villains, where she had a daughter, Evie.
Evie is dating Doug, son of Dopey. He has six uncles: Sneezy, Sleepy, Grumpy, Doc, Bashful, and Happy. Yep, the dwarfs are all brothers. Sleepy has a son named Sleepy Jr., Bashful has a son named Bashful Jr., and Grumpy has a son called Gordon.
But who is Evie’s father? Gaston. Gaston always wanted to marry the most beautiful girl in town, and the fairest of the isle was definitely the Evil Queen. They would have been attracted to each other because they were both beautiful, but their egos and love of themselves would have made it hard to keep up a lasting relationship. Gaston then decided to get together with someone who worshiped him enough to come to the Isle with him, and would just inflate his ego. Namely, a Bimbette.
They worshiped Gaston, and one of them surely would want to go with Gaston to the Isle of the Lost. And I read a good theory about which one of these three ladies came over with Gaston. So, Gaston has three sons with an unknown woman, Gaston jr., Gaston the 3rd and Gil. Gil is the only one to appear in the movies.
Gil wears the typical colours of Gaston, red and gold, but you can see on his sleeves there is a lighter yellow. His mother could be the cause of this. If this is true, then his and his brothers’s mother is Laurette, the Bimbette in the yellow dress. Her sisters Paulette and Claudette are Gaston, Gaston and Gil’s aunts. Furthermore, in a comic Laurette is shown to be the smartest of the three, pretending to be Belle so she could marry Gaston. Maybe she found a way onto the Isle.
But there is another clue for one of Snow White’s ancestors. What we have is a painting hanging in the dining room in Eric’s palace.
Now, who does this remind you of? Yes, that is a portrait of Prince Phillip and Princess Aurora. And they are Eric’s, and Snow White’s ancestors. You don’t just hang a royal portrait of some random people in your castle, and though over 500 years separates their stories, it is clear that Eric is descended from Phillip and Aurora. But the royal couple also have another child, one who is not a direct ancestor of Eric or Snow White. Audrey, Queen of Mean.

I do not think that she is a direct ancestor of Snow White, because although Snow shares some traits with Phillip and Aurora, Audrey and her share next to none. Most likely Audrey has a sibling who went on to continue ruling and is Snow White’s direct ancestor. But this is not the end. Aurora has two parents, King Stefan and Queen Leah. In the movie Maleficent, Queen Leah has a father, King Henry. And Phillip is the son of King Hubert. So Aurora’s family goes back a few generations more.
Below is an approximate timeline of events for this family to make it easier. A note that I have not included Descendants dates because it is so hard place on the timeline.

2020.09.15 20:14 a7xfanquebec Operation Urban Garden

Little crossover for an upcoming season me and my friend had.
New operator : Ghost (2 speed and 2 armor), (Nomad from Ghost recon Breakpoint and wildlands)
Primary weapon : Stoner Lmg A1, M4
Secondary : M1911 TACOPS
Seconday Gadgets : Claymore or flashbangs
Gadget : Ghost has access to the EMP variation of the recon Drone. he has acess to 2 of them. the drone is similar to the echo drone but it can fly in all axis. When the drone activates the emp charge, the drone is destroyed. The drone can be counter by Mute jammers, Magnets, Electrified surfaces or by simply shooting on it. While being an intel operator he is also a subsitute for thatcher.
MAP REWORK : Favela (I currently don't have any ideas for this map rework but i think it could be a pretty good map if worked on properly)

2020.09.15 16:02 throwaway6708736292 Leah McSweeney is one of my least favorite cast members to come on the show, and I hope she doesn’t come back.

I think Leah is disingenuous, and I think it’s crazy that everyone seems to like her because she shows that she doesn’t practice what she preaches on the daily.
She shamed Ramona (who deserves it, might I add) for not wearing a mask, when she doesn’t wear one all the time! She trounces around NYC without a mask, and goes and gets facials for her birthday in SLC. If she were shaming Ramona and wasn’t engaging in the same bad behavior, I would agree with her. But she’s only doing it to make Ramona look like shit (which she’s succeeding at, with this social media smear campaign her and her drunken bestie Dorinda have launched against her), not because she actually cares. If she did, she wouldn’t be doing the same stuff. Same shit, different toilet.
Then, remember when she said some random dude gave her “Pablo Escobar Vibes” in Mexico? And even though it’s admittedly getting beaten to death, the Michael Che incident? Leah is not some woke queen. She got sloppy drunk at Ramona’s, threw her tiki torches around, realized it was shitty after she did it, and slapped “Charlottesville” on it to make it seem politically correct and untouchable, cause if anybody called her out for it, they’d be racist. But, everyone else seems to ignore her saying random mexican men give her drug kingpin vibes, and that a black celebrity wouldn’t date her because she was white. NO, Leah doesn’t do anything racially insensitive ever, because she threw those tiki torches around!!
Then, there’s Ramona bringing up Leah’s bipolar disorder. The thing I like about Tinsley, and what I liked about MKE on OC, is that they never stooped to the other woman’s level. Tinsley never made a comment on Dorinda that was anywhere near as bad as the turkey baster joke, and MKE never stooped to Vicki’s level, but it’s not like that’s remotely possible anyways. Leah, however, decided to tell some random person in a cameo, that Ramona shits during sex, which ok, an eye for an eye, I can be vindictive too, I can get that. But then, her and Dorinda started this relentless social media smear of her that’s really just hateful at this point. Ramona’s done some fucked up shit over the years, I’m never going to say she’s a good person, but she also isn’t nearly as bad as she’s been before, and she isn’t as bad as a lot of the other housewives we’ve had come in and out of a show.
Lastly, we have her and her past in journalism. Once again, Leah 👏🏻 is 👏🏻 not 👏🏻 a 👏🏻 woke 👏🏻 “queen” 👏🏻. She wrote for the federalist, which is a conservative newspaper. Now I know republican =/= evil, but #MeNeither was reeeallly low, especially since she’s an assault survivor. This thing with Asia Argento has been getting talked about a lot recently, and while I understand Argento was a predator herself, having slept with an underage boy who she paid to keep quiet, there are still 2 things you really just should not do.
  1. Claim someone wasn’t raped by somebody, even if they continued to have a consensual relationship afterwards. Your partner can assault you, and spreading any other narrative is damaging to victims of sexual assault who are afraid to speak up.
  2. Claim that someone is responsible for somebody else’s suicide unless an investigation says so, especially if you don’t know either of the people involved, and just want to write an article to publicly shame someone.
Asia Argento is a disgusting human being, but it’s also disgusting to claim someone’s claim of having been sexually assaulted isn’t true, and to insinuate she was responsible for the suicide of her ex, Anthony Bourdain. It’s even MORE disgusting when you’re a sexual assault victim who suffers from Mental Illness. YOU should know better Leah.
So no, I don’t like Leah McSweeney. Just because Leah’s in a fight with Ramona and threw some tiki torches around doesn’t mean you should blindly support her. Ramona’s getting all of this hate for saying all lives matter and not wearing a mask (which again, she should get hate for) but if you’re gonna hate her, you should hate Luann, who once told a teenage girl in an low income school district that she’ll need to lose weight to be a model, wore blackface on camera, and referred to herself as “American Indian” for years. You should hate Sonja, who’s partied with Trump for years, and treats gay men like collectible figurines. And, you should hate Leah, for her racially insensitive remarks, lack of voting in the election, and her irresponsibility during the pandemic. She really isn’t everything y’all think she is.

2020.09.15 01:02 enchantedlife13 My take -- Best & Worst So Far (may include spoilers)

I've been thinking about some of the best and worst moments in Seasons 1 & 2, and these are the ones that stood out:
-- When Johnny kicks Kyler and his gang's ass outside the convenience store
-- When Miguel does the same in the lunchroom; particularly love when he tells Kyler, "It's not karate -- it's Cobra Kai!"
-- Johnny and Daniel bonding scenes. They could have SUCH a bromance if they would quit attacking one another anytime there is a miscommunication
-- Amanda telling them she doesn't want to clean blood off the patio so she invites them in for breakfast. Daniel: Want to go inside? Johnny: I could eat
-- Johnny & Anthony's interaction there
-- Johnny & Miguel at the diner across from the hospital. He may be Robby's dad, but he feels a true bonding with Miguel
-- When Aisha gave Jasmine the front wedgie
-- The double date

-- The way Miguel won the tournament. He's better than that.
-- Daniel being such a prick and talking to Armand, knowing it will put a hardship on Johnny
-- Hawk's transformation from being empowered to being a bully himself
-- When Miguel got beat up at the Halloween dance
--- When Amanda grounded Sam and took her phone; she was trying to come down hard on Sam but that created so many problems
-- Kreese taking Cobra Kai away from Johnny -- he's still a manipulative narcissist and Johnny's trying to be a better man!

Would love to hear yours as well!

2020.09.14 21:55 Orthodox_anglo Aerial toll-houses

This will be an attempt to EXPLAIN this doctrine, because its opponents often try to strawman it into something that it is not.
What the doctrine teaches is that when you die, angels appear to take your soul to heaven, while demons appear trying to drag your soul to hell. The demons accuse you of your sins as part of this process, while the angels defend you.
This process generally occurs while the angels are trying to help you ascend to heaven, though very holy men ascend almost instantly, with few demons attacking them, while wicked men are simply immediately dragged to hell.
Please note that the demons are not “judging your souls in place of God” in the doctrine, as many people think. God is the only judge and Final Judge.
It’s very clear that the demons merely take the role of a prosecutor, accusing your soul of sins, while the angels are your defender. But in the end, God alone is the impartial judge who decides your salvation.
This is the core of the doctrine. Anything else is merely an attempt to use figurative language to explain this doctrine. There are not literally custom booths in the sky where you have to pay a literal toll to demons to pass.
Even the tale of Theodora’s journey through the tollhouses, a roughly 10th century text, which is the source from which much of the language of tolls and custom houses is most used, makes it very clear that it is using figurative language to describe what can only be understood spiritually.
Metropolitan Hierotheos of Nafpaktos, a very highly regarded theologian-bishop in Greece, writes about this far better than I can.
St. Anthony’s Greek Monastery here in America, under the guidance of Elder Ephraim, former abbot on Mount Athose, recently published a 1,100 page book on the subject This book is absolutely filled with citations on the tollhouses from Scripture, Church Fathers, liturgical services, contemporary saints, etc. It was endorsed by numerous bishops and prominent theologians in America including the heads of the Antiochan, Russian, and Romanian Archdioceses of America and the former head of the OCA. I HIGHLY encourage you to read it if you truly want to understand the massive amount of historical support the doctrine has in Orthodoxy.
I cannot hope to provide even 1% of the citations St. Anthony’s provided on this subject, but I’m going to provide at least a few of them below to show that the tollhouses are not some sort of "gnosticism,” but have instead been a prominent view since ancient times.
The idea that demons try to seize our souls when we die was present in the early Church. St. Justin Martyr wrote, around 160 AD, of this. source
But the very first clear depiction of the journey the soul takes through the air, and the role of the angels and demons in this process, can be found in the “Life of St. Anthony” by St. Athanasius the Great, written in the early 300s. source As you can see from this source, St. Anthony and St. Athanasius very clearly taught that the demons try to hinder our ascension into heaven when we die by accusing us of sins. But if we have confessed and repented, we have nothing to fear from them. But if we are sinful, the demons will successfully block our ascension, and drag us into hell.
Here is an example of this belief found in the writings of Saint John Chrysostom (From the late 300s or early 400s). As you can see, Saint John believed that angels would guide our souls to heaven, but the “dreadful powers” of the demons would also try to demand our souls. source
Likewise, St. Cyril of Alexandria (early 400s) believed that Satan is owed a “debt” by us if we are sinful (hence the “toll” metaphor), and we must pay it off in this life by repenting. source
There is an example of a monk who, even before he died, was confronted by the demons accusing him of his sins. This can be found in the Seventh Step of the Ladder of Divine Ascent an early 7th century text that is the most renowned monastic guide ever written in the history of the Church.
Here is an explanation of the doctrine found in the famous “Precious Pearl” traditionally thought a work of St. John of Damascus, though some scholars date it to the 11th century. Either way, it’s very old. source
There is a tale of a monk who died, saw the process of the soul ascending into heaven and being accused by the demons before being returned to life to tell the living of what happens to the soul after death. The Source is St. Bede’s Ecclesiastical History. source
Just as St. Bede, above, wrote of this, so too did St. Boniface, Apostle to the Germans, showing that this doctrine is not unique to the East, but also once existed in the Orthodox West. source
Another Western source on this is the “Life of St. Columba,” a famous 6th century Western Saint. source
Beyond the Church Fathers and lives of the saints, the doctrine of the tollhouses can be found in many of the liturgical services of the Church, such as one of the versions of the service of Compline. source
Probably the service that makes it most explicit is the “Prayer at the Departure of the Soul,” a monastic service performed immediately after a monk dies. source
Likewise, many contemporary saints firmly believed in the doctrine. Here are quotes from two famous 19th century Russian saints, including the famous quote from St. Theophan the Recluse “No matter how absurd the idea of toll-houses may seem to our ‘wise men’, they will not escape passing through them.”
Likewise, St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, one of the most famous 20th century Orthodox saints, was an open and ardent proponent of the doctrine (he was the one who taught it to Fr. Seraphim Rose, in fact). source
St. Paisios, an incredibly famous late 20th century elder of Mt. Athos, also taught the doctrine. source

An Apologia of sorts to the Nicole Kidman Society (not really)
by Anthony Splendora, a Member
Anthony Splendora was writing something not directly about Nicole Kidman. In fact he was writing about the movies and, having been literally nursed in movie theaters during the late 1940s and having grown up with the movies of the 1950s and 60s, was writing about his experience of maturation in their light during that time, and about his exposure to iconic female images and presentations therein. He was thus a lover of cinema literally weaned on the art. By chance, following his amazement at the startling performance of Joaquin Phoenix in Joker (2019), Anthony Splendora sought out and rescreened (again) an early Joaquin film, To Die For (Van Sant 1995), in which Nicole Kidman “happens” to play the lead role, that of Suzanne Moretti. By sheer coincidence, even before Joker was released, Anthony Splendora had, for reasons having nothing do with Nicole Kidman or Joaquin Phoenix, watched To Die For a second time. As if he somehow intuited, was prescient with, the knowledge of its import.
Anthony Splendora had thus seen this film earlier, twice, and had enjoyed it, as it featured not only screen pyrotechnics from Nicole Kidman and Joaquin Phoenix but also an early and fine cinematic outing by Casey Affleck, as a teenager. The third time Anthony Splendora, now slow in his seventies, was exposed to the film, however, he began to come to a heightened consciousness regarding Nicole Kidman’s performance in it: she was very natural, he realized, she spoke with an effortless American accent, and seemed to float through it easily as if living in and reveling in her own personal dream. Nicole Kidman won a Golden Globe “Best Actress” award for this extraordinary work in the 1995 movie.
In the writing Anthony Splendora was doing at the time, he was focusing on explaining to academic readers the singular fact that photography and the movies, as directly recording forms of visual media, unavoidably capture history. He was pointing out, for example, that early French photographers (Atget, e.g.) imprinting Paris street scenes on sensitized metal plates inadvertently recorded the Eiffel Tower’s construction – their photographs now precisely datable because of it. Similarly exact datings are possible from films and series shot in and around Manhattan regarding the World Trade Towers, their presence pre-9/11, their absence after, and their final replacement. This fact of visual media is true even with respect to technology; there are probably technophiles amongst us who can precisely identify a moment in an era by the cell phones, video games and TVs shown. With this unintended “historicism” in mind, Anthony Splendora tried to discover exactly what it was that had impelled Nicole Kidman, at a particular historic moment in her life, to such an otherworldly revelation at a relatively early stage in her career in To Die For. Was it the script, the director, the location, the co-stars? Was it Nicole Kidman’s full and completely blossomed womanhood, joyously realized by its owner at that specific time? What?
Anthony Splendora went to the Internet and started searching for anecdote or commentary that might illuminate an answer to his question. As fate would have it, he stumbled onto Nicole Kidman fan sites and rummaged around looking for a place to ask his question. He found one where such questions might be asked, and there he posed (posted) it.
Dear Miss Kidman. Thank you for your work and for unselfishly sharing with moviegoers your self and your life. For purely scholarly purposes, do you have any recollection of what caused you to explode so completely and effectively into the role of Suzanne Moretti twenty five years ago in To Die For?
Only a couple of days passed before Anthony Splendora received a message on Facebook: Anthony Splendora has been accepted as a member of the Nicole Kidman Society. To his question no answer was forthcoming, but within moments, it seemed to him, Anthony Splendora was allowed to see pictures of the beautiful actress known as Nicole Kidman, and to view comments written by her fans from all around the world, most of whom were restricted to saying “Beautiful,” or “Sexy,” or “Will you marry me?” or “I love you for my whole life,” or “Luv ur hair.” He several times tried to make contact with reality for them, revealing, for example, that Nicole Kidman was born on the Island of Hawaii and is therefore a native-born American citizen (a handful of fans objected to this information, insisting that Nicole Kidman is Australian); he sent Nicole Kidman a public birthday congratulation using her Hawaiian name; he noted that being very tall, nearsighted, left-handed, a little gawky, and essentially nonathletic, Nicole Kidman can not have had an easy time growing up, entering, working in, and succeeding almost immeasurably in the movie industry, which in her early days was essentially based in the United States and focused on an American ideal of perfection not touching those qualities. Came more objections from fans, but no answer to the question.
But now a strange realization was seeping into the mind of Anthony Splendora -- more and more with daily exposure to Nicole Kidman’s archive of stills, promos, ads, glamour, personal, and movie excerpts put out to the world. Apparent even to one who was getting slower as the days passed, this magnificent creature has lived in the eyes of her viewers as the ancient gods lived only when worshipped. She exists professionally only to be and do that; all else is supererogatory, baloney. There is not, and cannot be, a special unrelated reason why Nicole Kidman nuked the role of Suzanne Moretti five and twenty years ago; Nicole Kidman was Suzanne Moretti, loved being Suzanne Moretti, lived to be Suzanne Moretti, would have died for not being Suzanne Moretti. Nicole Kidman’s persona as a screen entity is as viable and real a being as that of the character “Suzanne Moretti,” in other words, or as viable an entity as any of the other roles Nicole Kidman has taken in hand and crushed with her professional wondrousness. There is no daylight between “Nicole Kidman” and “Suzanne Moretti.” “Nicole Kidman” might as well be “Suzanne Moretti,” indeed for all intents and purposes is her.
So now Anthony Splendora opens his Facebook pages every day and sees la magnificenta creatura entering late middle age, the photos becoming less perfectly focused, the gauze seeming to appear on the lens in proportion to the wrinkles on the magnificent creature’s face and body, but no less magnificent for it. He is thankful that so magnificent a creature has so naturally, as a magnificent creature should and must, shared her magnificence with the world of magnificence-appreciatives. But then, what else is magnificence, or any other blaze, to do with its light? Somehow Nicole Kidman understood this early and well, and made the most of it. If Anthony Splendora could, now after all this, say one thing to Nicole Kidman, he would say, “Thank you, you magnificent and enormously talented creature. My question, and all questions regarding icons such as yourself and Marilyn Monroe, even, have been answered.”
